Isao Takahata exhibition
We left for animation of Japan
Takabata that challenged the difficult subject called solidarity of people who fought against the devil in "great adventure of solar prince Horus" that became the first long piece direction (supervision) (1968) reclaimed new expression in animation in sequence afterwards. In the 70s, we complete form of rich human being drama unlike adventure fantasy through technique to draw everyday life in TV masterpiece series such as "Alpine girl Heidi" (1974), "Anne of Green Gables" (1979) carefully. When the 80s begins, we move the stage to Japan and express "gravel n child wisdom" (1981), "Ghosh of cello player" (1982), reality of Japanese climate and folklife including "Grave of the Fireflies" (1988) and produce large-scale work reconsidering history in postwar period for Japanese wartime. It became posthumous work and made full use of digital technology in "The Tale of The Princess Kaguya" (2013) and challenged watercolor-like how to depict utilized line of freehand drawing and achieved innovation in expression that marked line with conventional cell style.
We always explored contemporary theme, and trace of innovator, creation of Takabata that pursued new expression method appropriate for it thoroughly built foundation of postwar Japanese animation in this way and had a big influence on other producers. While we pay attention to point called "direction" of Takahata who does not describe painting at this exhibition, and unscreened document of majority introduces, it approaches in secret of the multifaceted work world.
